Whamisa’s deep rich toner is somewhere between a toner and an essence, I think. It seems to have a lot of positive reviews and people just love it. The instructions say to pat it on with your hands instead of using a cotton ball. This sorta implies you could use a cotton ball and use it like a toner if you wanted to. The texture, however, is a thick liquid so it is easy to apply using just your hands. A big selling point for me on this product is that it has fermented ingredients.

Mia’s review: I really wanted to love Whamisa’s deep rich toner but I don’t. I used it as an essence and patted it on with my fingers/hands. It has a strong smell (a nice smell) that was a bit too strong for me. The strong smell made me feel concerned that the essential oils were too strong for my skin and irritating it. I didn’t experience any breakouts, though. I also didn’t notice that it added any hydration but I think I use good moisturizers and oils so don’t need more hydration. Because of all the positive reviews, I would definitely be willing to try this again in a couple of months to see if I have a different experience.

Update May 2018: I finally figured out that I am one of the rare people who cannot use ferments at all. It explains why I haven’t liked any of the Whamisa products that I’ve tried or Missha’s Time Revolution First Treatment Essence. It’s not the products, it’s me.
