Biologique Recherche Lotion P50v 1970 Review

After hearing about Lotion P50 nearly a year ago, I’ve googled the product extensively. There are a lot of reviews but I found few about Biologique Recherche’s P50v 1970 formula. The “v” version is supposed to be a little milder for those with sensitive skin types and also those new to using P50. The idea is that after an adjustment period, one can graduate to using the full strength version of P50. The “1970” means it is the original version that includes phenol, a controversial ingredient, that is banned in some countries.

Also, for those of you who are new to P50, it isn’t really a lotion. It is a toner that exfoliates. You use it after cleansing and before moisturizing.

Mia’s review:  I can not live without this product! I use it twice a day, undiluted. All the positive reviews are true. Using P50v 1970 has resulted in my esthetician telling me that I don’t really need facials anymore since I don’t need any extractions. So don’t worry that P50v 1970 is too mild and won’t work.

I’ve never had an acne problem but since using this, I’ve had zero pimples. It took about a week for my skin to adjust and the stinging sensation to go away. Note: the sensation was not enough that I diluted the P50v 1970 by putting water on my cotton pad.

I also did not experience any purging with this product. My BFF used the original P50 1970 and quit using it after a few weeks because she didn’t know purging could happen. After I told her about purging, she went back to using P50 1970  and eventually her skin cleared up. Now, she too cannot live without this product!

I was hesitant to start using P50 because of the salicylic acid. Many years ago, I’d tried a product with salicylic acid which resulted in my getting little white head all over my nose. At the time, I assumed it was the salicylic acid and that I am one of those rare people who cannot use it. I am glad to report that I was wrong and I have had no issues. It must’ve been some other ingredient in the product I previously tried.

As for the phenol, I’m on the fence. I know that often times the US lags behind other countries when it comes to consumer safety and our laws. But, there are so many people who have used the original version and not experienced any problems. If you’ve used both the original and updated versions, please post your experiences in the comments.
